• Question 1. Give a brief summary of Kamala Das' poem my mother at sixty six.

Ans.This poem brings out the contrast in human relationship. It was a Friday morning. The poetess was driving to kochin airport .Her mother who was 66 years old was sitting beside her. The poetess saw that her mother looked as pale as the dead body .A sad  thought came in poetess mind but she soon draw this thought away and started looking at the trees that seemed to be running fast. She saw children running fast out from their homes in joy .After reaching the airport ,poetess behaved rudely to her mother .Surely ,This was not the way a daughter should apart from her old sickly mother.

• Answer -She sees the young trees on the roadside. They seems to be running towards her. In fact the trees are not running .She also sees children running out of their homes in joy.

Answer-The poet was going to the Cochin airport .Her mother was sitting beside her .The poet found her mother dozing .Her mouth was opened and she looked as pale as a Corpus.

Answer.The poet's mother has been compared to the late winter's moon because winter like old age is the time of inactivity old age is the last phase of human life just as winter is the last month of the year . Andin old age a man grows feel like death just as the moon in late winter looks pale white.
